Hobby Light/Circuit switch wiring advice please

by johnjoiner » Sat Jun 30, 2007 4:58 pm

Hi folks. This involves a 12v car battery and a solar panel to charge the battery.

My "wish" is this:

1. Attach the wires from solar panel to battery with appropriate post clamps (currently croc clips).

2. The supply feed from the battery to also be clamped to the same post clamps (diode in solar panel protects it).

3. Waterproof switch inline from supply feed in (2) to turn supply on/off

All of above I can do but here's the bit that I have stumbled on:

4. Replace switch in (3) so that when switched in one way it directs power
to a small bulb. When switched the opposite way it restores power to
the main supply to whatever I am powering.

I just want to know what type of switch this needs to be please and if there
is anything in the wiring that is "special".

Many thanks

BLAKEY1963 and Sparx: Many thanks for your replies. I will now be able to tell when the electric fencing around the chickens is off :-)
