problem with LIBERON sealer finish on wooden floor

by hdk » Mon Mar 14, 2011 9:47 pm

I have a 50 year old dark solid wood floor in a 1960s house that I have previously waxed with Liberon floor wax. I have no other experience with floors. As it is in a high traffic area and becoming the worse for wear I thought I would give it some tlc. First I cleaned it with Liberon floor cleaner then applied The Liberon sealer following the instuctions - 3 coats, a day apart. The finish is not good - very patchy - glossy in areas- dull in others almost gravelly in others. Undetered i thought it may improve with a coat of Liberon wax but it hasnt.
1.Is there some secret knack on the application of the sealer that I did no know?
2. Will further coats of wax eventually hide the poor finish?
3. Should I clean the whole lot off and start again - if so how?

hdk,
Your original coating of wax will have soaked deep into the wood and nothing will effectively coat this (even with cleaning). Strip off the sealer, sand the floor and go back to waxing.
end
