Wet rot - best way to treat?

by Totally clueless » Sun Jul 01, 2007 9:11 pm

I've found wet rot in my bathroom floorboards. I've been told that the best and easiest way to get rid of it is simply by treating with a chemical which will need to be applied 3 times, but will restore the timber. Is this true, and is it really the best way to sort it?

My own inclination is to replace the affected timbers, and treat the replacements with wood preserver in order to prevent the problem from recurring. I was also thinking that I might even paint the floorboards with marine varnish before re-laying the tiles, for additional protection.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the above?
