Monoblock tap problem Drainage and wastage systems and plumbing help, advice and answers

I have a Blanco single lever monoblock kitchen tap. The on/off hot/cold lever works perfectly with fingertip ease. However the section that delivers the water is so stiff it needs two hands to rotate. It was not always like this. Is there a way to free this up.

I would be happy to remove the tap to service if required.

Depends which model of tap you have but generally these rely on 'O' rings for sealing of the rotating part. These will have dried and become seized with salts and you will have to take the tap apart to lubricate and possibly replace the 'O' rings.

Thanks. Was hoping that I would not have to disassemble. Could you use a lubricating spray? - say a silicone based one (rather than WD-40)

yes you need to get a tube of silicone grease (sometimes called silicone lube), available at any plumbers merchant or diy store.

The chances of spraying lubrication on the outside of the tap to cure this problem are slim. You will need to take the tap apart, descale it, fit new 'O' rings, lubricate and re-assemble.
