Hi All, I'm stripping paint from an aquired shed with a heat gun. The paint is not behaving like other paints I've removed. The undercoat is orange in colour and it partly comes away like chewing-gum. It seems like an uphill struggle. I've tried a belt sander with a coarse grit and that clogs and becomes useless. HELP!! What is this stuff?

it sounds like some sort of exterior gloss, it's probably getting very warm with the friction from the sander which is why it's going like chewing gum, especially if you are trying to strip it in this current warm weather.

i'd try a heat gun to strip it. you could also consider getting it dipped, depending on the size.

Thank you for the advice about this paint. The heat gun approach also creates 'chewing-gum', which sticks to the scraper. I then need another scraper for the scraper. Will try chemical warfare next. Thanks again

sorry, i should have read your post properly, you did state that you were using a heat gun. i wouldn't try nitromors, you'll need a whole load of it to strip a shed and it's nasty, messy, harmful stuff.

try your local door stripping firms, there shouldn't be one too far away from you - they may have a vat large enough to immerse your panels.

the other way of course is a decent palm sander and lots and lots of 60 grit paper.
