patio pointing problem?

i am doing a patio at the moment i was going to use for my pointing up a wet mix of sand and cement or a dry mix of 4/1 mix. But the slap i am useing have a staining problem when useing cement based product. What ells could i use to get a nice secure joint. Then i was going to use just sand but some has sed to me i need some thing more than just sand pleas help me :cry: ?

use a slightly damp mix of 4:1,To test ,grab a handfull and squeeze it,there should be no moisture but it should retain its shape in your hand thats the consistancy you require.
Brush into the joints and use a finger trowel or pointing tool to iron the joints,make sure its well compacted or you will get holes.

you just have to be carefull lay it in the joint as near as possible and with it being virtually dry staining is at a minimum
