please help with NICEIC Ask questions and find answers to many subjects relating to electrics and electrical work

Hi people, this is my first forum entry so please bare with me if I go on a bit!
I've just completed my city&guilds level2 2330, now currently doing my 2392 and going to get the 17th Edition update as soon as possible. Given that I don't currently work in the electrical industry I'm quite confused as to how I prove any kind of competency to the NICEIC for Part P registration with no work history to show them? I'm led to believe that I can not carry out work such as installing a new circuit because it is notifiable work but yet that's the kind of work the Nic inspector is going to want to see? Like I said I'm not in the industry right now I'm just a van driver at the moment but I'm intending on setting up as a self employed sparky and I'm pretty much there (got my 2392 exam in two weeks) but this is one thing I cant seem to get a straight answer on from my tutor, can anyone advise me on how to get through the Part P registration in my position? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You have to pay LABC for first few jobs and then they can be inspected.

ok cool thanks very much, I have a friend who is a time served electrician and is registered with Napit, could I just have him inspect whatever work I do rather than paying for building control? and keep a copy of the test results to make up some work history?

How do you expect to break the rules and then get the inspector to pass your work and accept you onto the scheme?

This is the problem. To get accepted costs money. They do list what you need. You have to have the full library of books to start with.

My son looked at it and one has to be a full time Electrician to make money as you pay annual fee. So many jobs don't need notification so if you average 1 a week then split the fee into 52 plus add charge for each job and they are earning more money from your work than you are.

I'm not sure I'm with you on that one, why would that be "shopping him in"?
I'm just assuming that's jujst another way to get onto the scheme, after all.. if I install say a ring final and then then accessor doesn't pass me on it then what? surely the circuit has to be checked out by someone already deemed as "competent" incase I fail my inspection.. thats what I suggested asking a friend to do the initial inspection and then using those results to go through my assessment with. But like I said I don't know how this works properly yet that was just my assumption.

You need to read the rules more carefully. To sign an installation certificate for all three functions Design, Installation, and Inspection and testing you must have done all three.

The forms issued for sole traders under a scheme do not have provision for three separate signatures. So if he signed off your work he would be saying he had done all the design and installation as well as inspection and testing.

So you are then going to come along and say to your inspector. "No he didn't do that work I did". At which point the inspector will write to your mates scheme provider as say "This man is signing off other peoples work" at which point he will be banned from the scheme.

I have not done the cut down version C&G2392 I did full C&G2391 but I am sure your course tells you in the same way as mine did how to fill in the forms and what bits you should sign.

You will need to use form 2 where you are doing the work and some one else is inspecting and testing and for domestic the only way to get a completion certificate with form 2 is through the LABC.
