I have installed a new electric metal light dimmer switch which does not say that it needs to be earthed. I attached the red wire to the entry marked 'con' and the blsck wire to the entry marked terminal 2. (There is one and two) Nonetheless I earthed it and it worked for a while (2 days) but it has ceased working. This has happened twice. Can you help

i have to lights ,one at the bottom the stair and one on the landing,i have taken a feed from the landing light,to put a light in the atic ,the landing light has other wires ,when i conected
