We have a banking which is in full sun ( if we are lucky) - Can anyone recommend low growing plants/shrubs which will survive dry conditions.

Cotoneaster is a favourite, but it's also the reason for me joining this forum....they can be very invasive and self set in very awkward places which will need careful removal...

Try some of these less irritating ones...
Stachys "Silver Carpet"
Ajuga reptans "Atropurpurea"
Nepeta X mussinii
Santolinia chaecyparissus (or virens)
Thymus
Hypericum calycinum
Vinca Major (or minor)

No flowers
Euonymus fortunei
Juniperus horizontalis (or squamata)

Have a look at your local supermarket car parks too, they have landscapers in to design low maintenance areas that are generally able to cope with neglect and dry soil.

All these plants a relatively low maintenance.
The are all to a lesser or greater degree rapid growing.
You will still have to keep the bank weed free for the first few years after planting to aid establishment.
