Insulating a single brick wall with alluminium foil

by dg124195 » Fri Jul 29, 2011 8:53 am

I need to inulate a single brick wall in a bedroom and was considering applying Thermal (alluminium foil) insulation directley to the wall. The theraml foil would sit inbetween wood batterns and the wall then covered with plasterboard.

What problems do you see with this method? I am worried that the wall will not be able to breath and damp will build up.

If I do away with the thermal foil and instead apply plaster board straight to the wall will I be getting much in the way of insulation, again without an air gap?

Essentially I want to insulate the wall but not significanlty increase the thickness of the walls. Increasing the thisckness of the wall will give me other problems such as having to increase the with of the window ledge.

Thanks for any help you can provide

you could apply 2 coats of bitumin paint directly on the brickwork to seal it from damp.
Then dryline the wall with foil backed plasterboard.
