Which is the best white gloss to use? We're going to decorate the hallway - with a LOT of doors so want the paint which will stay the whitest, longest.

Can't recall what we used last time, it has a faintly matt look and I know the paintbrushes could be washed in water. Just not sure they shouldn't have stayed whiter and they do seem to get dirty quickly!

doesn't sound like you used a gloss last time if it had a satin finish - and if you could wash the brushes in water it must've been a water based satinwood perhaps?

anyway, crucial to the longevity of the whiteness is the prepwork. sand down well then clean up and use a decent quality primer (on any bare wood) and solvent based undercoat.

Then a solvent based gloss, NOT water based.

I'd highly recommend Dulux Trade undercoat followed by Dulux Trade High Gloss in pure brilliant white. Good luck!

Thanks Chris. Hubby tends to prefer the 'wash brushes in water' style paint, but I agree it might not be the best option for 'finish', (but maybe best for ease of cleaning brushes).

Back to oil based gloss for him! Will give your recommendation a go.

Hi, I would go along with chris's answer on this one. I am one of the old school and prefer proper paint not the waterbased ones. I always think that by the time the paint has started to yellow then it is time to redo it anyway. Saying that waterbased gloss will stay whiter for a bit longer than the oil based ones but I personally would stick to the oil based ones.

Hi to all, Thanks for all.This is my suggestion.
We've just had our house redecorated and our decorator used Leyland Paint including Gloss paint. The finish is fantastic.

Its always fantastic when fresh painted, oil paint used to get yellow after some time
