changing night sensors to motion sensors

by horsegoesintoabar » Tue Aug 16, 2011 1:19 pm

I've moved into a house with 5 external lights (not floodlights, just lantern-type) all connected to one night sensor, i.e. they all come on at dusk and all stay on all night. They're on their own fused mains circuit.

They are each about 10 yards apart, and go round 3 sides of the house, so the cabling is about 50 yards in total.

If I replace the light sensor with a motion sensor, put one to the side and another at the rear of the house, will that mean they'll all come on given any motion detection anywhere, and will all go off after the timed setting - or does each one of them need to have an independent power source and sensor?

Any advice gratefully received!

Cheers!

Depends if your night sensor is a photo cell ?
AND OPERATES at present all lights ?
You need to decide where the MOTION sensors would go ? how many ?
If only one sensor was employed then the total loading of the lamps would not exceed the rating of the maximim load current of the sensor .
As it is outdoors i am sure you have bourne in mind part p.
