No Earth Wire In Light

by chris34720 » Tue Sep 27, 2011 2:33 pm

Hi

I have no clue on how to wire a light but im guessing looking on the internet at whats what and possibly look at videos then i shouldnt have a problem.

The only problem i have is recently me and my wife decorated our room and we bought a nice cheap light from B&Q but i wanted to put it up, so i attempted to take down the other light and find it has no earth cable, someone said the cable possibly could be up inside the loft under the floor boards and the other 2 cables just on there own, the light has been like that for over 5 years it hasnt caused any problems

any suggestions ?

Would need an idea of the wiring's age. But if its earlier than the late 60s there is a good chance it was wired in twin cable & not with the more recent twin & earth. If its a metal fitting? get some professional advice as this will need an earth.
