European (Swedish) Lamp change plug for use in UK

by wanttobuy123456 » Sat Oct 08, 2011 5:39 pm

On impulse I brought an expensive desk lamp on a recent strip of Sweden as a present for my husband. Having returned to the UK I would like to give him this gift already to plug in and use. The lamp, is new, has a two pin plug on it, the CE marking and a sticker which says 220-240v - 50-60Hz 1xMAX 60W/DFL (and now I see made in Finland!). Can I just cut off the two pin plug and replace it with a UK three pin (ignoring the earth terminal) and what fuse should I use? I presume a blub (small screw) up to 60W is what I should use (the guy did not want me to cut myself on it if it got broken in transit so he took the bulb that was in the lamp which was working in the shop.

I save a considerable sum on this lamp compared with the cost of similar in the UK - that is so long as it doesnt have to be completely rewired!!
