Linseed oil or modern equivalent ? Help, advice, information, answers and tips on all types of flooring from laminate and carpet to timber and vinyl

Hi,
I`ve sanded my old oak floor ( it was layed in approx. 1900 ).
I`ve been told I need to use raw Linseed oil to bring the best out of the wood . Is this correct or should I use something else.

just to let you know,if you do use linseed oil,be very careful what you do with the cloth that you put it on with after you have finished.linseed oil is liable to spontaneous combustion.eg,ex girlfriend of mine done my parquet flooring once and put the cloth in kitchen cupboard.7 hours later,smoke alarm went off and cloth was alight in cupboard.thick black smoke in every room.beware.
