tiling over wood floor in kitchen

by antonyelliot » Tue Nov 08, 2011 10:43 am

hi

sorry if this has been covered before i have been reding lots of different forums about this and getting conflicting information!

i want to tile my kitchen diner before fitting a new kitchen so the kitchen units sit ontop of the tiles. i was thinking of using either slate or poreclain tiles ive not decided yet.

the area is 2610mm x 6070mm, the kitchen part has been tiled by the previos owner it looks like they have tiled over 6mm ply, there are a few little cracks in some of those tiles but are generally good. i am going to remove all these old liles. the diner is currently the original 22mm pine (i think) T+G floorboards nailed down with joists at 400mm centres and is in good condition.

i understand i am going to have to board the floor with something (ply/widiboard/aquaboard?) but i am not sure what is best and how thick to use.

cheers
ant

lay new 6mm marine ply on the existing floorboards and screw it down every 150mm.The new tiles need to be laid on a flexible tile adhesive.
