i have a small wooden garden wall made from 4x4 posts and 8x3 boards it is 2 foot high and around 10 feet long . i also have two brick retaining walls of around the same size if i fix an external render board to to wooden posts can all the walls then be rendered the same ,if so what boards do you recommend and what form of render.

its not the best idea,You would need to nail mesh to the wood and then render over it,but with the moisture behind the timber,it will crack the render and fall off.

What if I left an air space and used some exterior cement based board first then mesh would that work or still no good .

not really the best idea,if you want everything to match why not use railway sleepers for all the walls instead, they are cheap, sturdy and durable.
