Hanging wallpaper on painted MDF?

by KK524 » Mon Dec 12, 2011 10:56 pm

Hi,

We're hanging wallpaper on MDF that has been sealed with acrylic paint, and thought we would hang lining paper first. We used Solvite Extra Strong wallpaper adhesive, but the lining paper hasn't stuck to the surface properly and is peeling away terribly.

I'd appreciate any advice on how to solve this. Does the surface need to be prepared differently (sanded perhaps?), or do we need a different adhesive?

Any thoughts at all are very welcome as we're trying to get this project finished before the relatives arrive for Christmas!

Many thanks.

You have walls made of MDF? try adding some PVA to it, a light scuff wouldnt do it any harm. ready mixed adhesive should work no problem, maybe your mix is too weak.
