lath and plaster fixings

by soblue2001 » Sat Jul 07, 2007 3:12 pm

Hi

Ive read a lot on here about platerboard fixings but what would be recommended for kithen cabinets to lath and plaster wall? About an inch behind the lath is solid brick.

Would it be better to use a long fixing into this, or do you get reliable fixings for the lath and plaster walls?

Ta for any advice.

Allan

I dont use plasterboard fixings on lath and plaster walls. Theres too much risk of them giving way and falling off! Your best bet is too use longer screws and get a fixing into the brick wall. This will be plenty too hold the cabinets onto the wall. Even if the screws have to be 4 inches long. If the cabinets are held by metal plates in the top corners fix them in the bottom corners too. Make the fixings look tidy by useing zinc screws with brass cups. Hope this helps.
