Staining and sealing a solid oak floor

by Anita_B » Mon Mar 19, 2007 9:21 pm

I stained my ensuite bathroom floor, new solid oak boards, then used an Osmo oil and wax to seal it but with disastrous results. The oil appeared to react with the wood dye and the colour was lifted from the floor in patches. It might have had something to do with the fact that the room was very cold and it took over a week to dry. I read in an interiors magazine someone had mixed wood dye with the oil and wax before applying it in one go, has anyone tried this? Can anyone recommend the best way I can achieve a solid black floor, or specific product that shows the wood grain but without using paint!

yours hopefully, AnitaB
