Light Circuit not Earthed

by Basil20 » Sat Jul 21, 2007 8:48 pm

Hi guys,
I want to change over a plastic light switch to a chrome switch, but the light circuit is not earthed, so can i run a earth conductor from nearby socket (which is earthed) to chrome switch, is this okay or will i have to call a spark out to do the work.

Thanks in advance for any advice

ONE WOULD ATTEMPT THIS THIERSLEVES, BUT TO BE HONEST
YOU HAVE AN OLD SYSTEM OF DATED WIRING BY THE SOUNDS OF YOUR INFO.
AN EARTH COULD BE UTILISED FROM THE SOCKET, BUT THEN EARTH LOOP IMPEADANCE CHECKS WOULD BE CARRIED OUT TO VERIFY
INTEGRITY OF EARTHING AND CLARIFY CPC RATING FOR CORRECT
DISCONNECTION TIME FOR PROTECTIVE DEVICE.
SO ADVISE TO GET SPARKY TO TEST AND EXAMINE WIRING IN THE VIEW OF REWIRING.
