leveling tarmac floors

by dessert32 » Sun Jul 15, 2007 9:58 pm

Hi, i have an uneaven tarmac garage floor that i would like to level.
I was thinking of useing either garage floor tiles or a self leveling screed as this would be alot thinner than leveling with tarmac (re-tarmacing).
Will the screed option adhere to to tarmac ok, can i just pour it on top, or will preperation be required.

Hi,

I wouldn't put anything on top. You can be sure that any product you have mentioned will not be backed up by the manufacturer to be applied to old tarmac. Why have you got tarmac inside a garage? This sounds kind of strange, like the garage has been built on top of a driveway.

If the tarmac is uneven for whatever reason then the sub-base needs attention as anything you overlay will fall victim to the same problem.

The best way to get over this and spending the least amount is to take up the old tarmac and relay with new hot rolled tarmac.

Hope this helps.
