Drilling into wall General problems, solutions, information and advice on fixing to walls of all kinds

Hi all,

I recently moved into a house that was not decorated. So I am in the process of installing curtain poles in all the rooms.

The problem is I am really struggling to drill sufficient holes in the wall. I get the drill bit half way in before the momentum stops and the drill bit becomes loose or blunt. So I am unable to get the rawl plug in.

I bought a new set of masonry drill bits but this has not fixed the problem. I am using a Bosch PSB 550 RE drill.

Anybody know what I might be doing wrong?

dont buy cheap drill bits,always go for good brand names,The raw plugs need to be high quality with wings on them to help grip.
If you still are having trouble try drilling the hole,squirt expanding foam in,and insert the plug,wait for 2 hrs till its set then fix.

just a guess, but if you are drilling over the windows to fix curtain rails, you may be drilling into a concrete lintel, in which case you wont be able to drill them without an sds drill.
