Is there a "best" setting for running my central heating boiler. My earlier advice was to run the boiler at a high setting and let the thermostats control the room temps. Following a recent service, the engineer has reduced the boiler setting to low - what's best please????

There's no hard and set way of using your boiler. It's all down to personal choice/circumstances. Last year my wife and 2 children were all at home during the day so my heating was on low 24/7 throughout the winter.

Now it's on timed, for a couple of hours in the morning 5:30 - 7:30 before we go to work & school.Then on an evening from about 5 til 8, on a medium setting.

You need to work out what's best for you, some people argue that having the heating on constant is cheaper that boosting the heat twice per day from cold - but it's never been proven.
