Damp patch above skirting board/door frame

by billyhat » Mon Nov 26, 2012 11:47 am

Hello all - my first post here.

We have just had a load of work done on our roof to clean-up a bodge job done by the guy who sold us our house 2 years ago ("knowingly withholding defects to the house" I think they call it in the legal world!), and lo and behold, we have now spotted a new damp patch at the other end of the house!

I was hoping to get some thoughts from people here before we bring in a surveyor.

This small corner is where the skirting board meets an outside door frame:

We haven't done any work outside near this corner, so we're a bit concerned it could be something like rising damp (although there is no other indication of this).

Any thoughts would be very gratefully received!

usually caused by the door frame not sealed properly, the damp looks recent.Unlikley to be rising damp with just 1 patch by the door.Scrape out the existing sealant and renew. Also check for cracking above the head of the door and the surrounding plaster/brickwork.
