Gas fire not giving sufficient heat Information, help and advice on many gas related subjects from gas fires to domestic appliances

I had a Valor Black Beauty (Model 349) installed last winter. I noticed then that the heat output wasn’t all that great but left things as they were. This year I notice the room temperature barely exceeds 19°C and am concerned that something has not been done according to the installation manual. The previous gas fire gave a good heat even though the efficiency was only about 50%.
The screw within the restrictor elbow is fully open.
Parameters of the fire are:
Max output heat 4Kw
Min output heat 1Kw
Efficiency 74% (gross)
Can someone please help.

I can only suggest that you get a registered Gas Safe engineer to check it out. If you have some doubt as to the installation, there may be a safety concern.

The more modern gas fires are not as good as the old radiant type fires. A lot of the heat is lost up the flue, they're great for decorative effect but not for heating a room effectively.

4kw is'nt that high, if its 74% efficient that equates to 3kw.
A lot of other fires convecter box and radiant fire are higher, usually 6.9kw to keep under the threshold for requiring an air vent. So even at 50% efficiency you will get 3.5kw out. There is no adjustment to gas consumption on modern fires, so unless the pipe work is under sized it should be correct.
