Gas cooker low oven

by john9159 » Wed Feb 27, 2013 11:20 am

I have a Valor Vienna gas cooker (c. 1990?) which does not give high heat in the oven.
The burner ignites as is expected although when the oven control is set to any high gas mark the burner does not fire up to give any significant heat output.
As it is I cannot use the over although in recent months it has been temperamental in that sometimes it fires up and at other times it does not.
I need to know what the problem is so I don't get ripped off when the gas technician comes round.

Thanks

Sounds like the oven thermostat/flame failure device. You get a small flame, then after a bit it goes to the main burner. This is obviously temperature control but also limits the amount of gas that's released if the flame was blown out.
