Tiling a garden bench. Advice and information on tiling and fixing tiles to a variety of surfaces

I have a garden bench which consists of a cast iron frame with two gloss painted rigid planks. One for the backrest and one for the seat. I wish to tile the seat with six 20x20 tiles which I already have. I would prefer not to buy a large tub of adhesive for such a small job. A mate has some left over wall tile adhesive. I know this is for interior use, would I be wasting my time using this? Any ideas on a cheap way to lay the tiles. I even thought of a large splodge of 'No Nails' on each corner of the tile - I know it's unorthodox, would that work?

I can't imagine why you want to tile a garden bench. I wouldn't think any adhesive would have long life on exterior timber that will be constantly expanding and contracting with the weather conditions. I would stick to using gloss paint.

The reason for using tiles is that the constant removal of pigeon crap would possibly be made easier. It sticks like hell when the gloss paint begins to lose its shine.

Sounds like a good reason to me ! I suppose your idea of No Nails or similar might just do the trick, but it's going to have a limited life.
