I'm about have my bathroom re-decorated and need advice on which extractor fan to buy. There is one fitted at the moment but it's useless and situated in the wrong place. The bathroom suffers from very bad condensation which has led to mold on the tile grout so don't really want this to happen on new tiles.

Happy to spend between £50 and £100 if it does the job.

Also, what is the best/correct place for an extractor fan to be positioned?

Catch 22 with fans. I find the in-line fans with timer are best if you have a loft above, as they are not as noisy. Best place to place the outlet grill from the room is the opposite end from the door to get the best flow of air across the room.
The catch with fans is the better the airflow, the more heat you will drag out the room.
You could also fit a humidity stat to help lower condensation.

Also make sure the external grill has a mesh on it to stop the bugs crawling in & nesting.

Its depending on where your bathroom is situated and your house type you could fit an "inline" fan which will leave you with nothing but a grill in the ceiling remove the noise as the fan is sited somewhere remotely and work more effectively too.
