Clay Soil - What Are The Correct Foundations To Use

by Annie's » Wed Sep 25, 2013 9:39 am

We are building an extension and our soil is clay. We can't find out about the foundations to our house as it is a converted barn. How can we ensure that we put in the correct foundations for building regs as when phoning the council, they just suggested bore holes to find out what is already there under the house but our house is surrounded with reinforced concrete to all sides. Is there away of sorting this without spending a fortune?

I would suggest calling the building control officer round, after the bore holes are done, and ask his opinion, after all he is the one who will pass it
