I need to render an outside brick wall which has a wood beam set into the brickwork.It is not practical to remove the wood beam.
Will it be ok to cover the beam, and surrounding bricks with expanded mesh,(or PVC expanded mesh) and then render.
I am worried that the wood will 'move' with different temperature conditions, and crack the render.
Any advice would be appreciated.

use expanding mesh and nail it on with galvanized nails, then paint the area with pva and render it with
a mix of 4/1/1, sand, cement, lime.

Will it be ok to put some waterproof in the with the mix ?It is an external wall exposed to severe weather.

yes put waterproof in the mix, use 1 shot opti proof for best results
