Issue With Grey Osmo Timber Floor Finish

by cowgirl » Wed Apr 02, 2014 10:58 pm

Can anyone help us with a problem that is of our own making really.

We sanded old floorboards back to bare wood. We then chose an Osmo finish that looked good in the store ....sort of grey and translucent with some of the grain showing through. However when we had used the paint followed by the recommended seal it looks awful. The grey is really opaque and the only thing that shows through is the brown knots. We wondered whether putting a varnish on would solve it, but apparently it is not compatible with the Osmo sealing product so we need to sand at least the top layer off again....

Any suggestions please??

thanks!

Putting a varnish over seal is not a good idea as it will not provide the clear finish. Apart from using this, you can opt for sprayed solvents that are specifically designed for using over the seals. These are available on most of the worktop related stores. try it, I hope your problem will vanish by using this.

Thank you so much for answering. Will a Spray Solvent remove the existing seal OR is it a finish that goes on top of the existing seal?? thanks!

Sorry for the late reply cowgirl. Yes we can use the spray solvent over the sealer but make sure to check the technical details of the sealer manufacturer company. Only after that take a step ahead.
