The plug assembly is just sitting in place, sealed by an "o"-ring in a groove on its rim. Below the chromed top the assembly is adjustable for length, so it needs lengthening to reach the raising lever. In the meantime, the plug can be just prised up with the tip of a slot-type screwdriver;-- a small one, and take care not to nick the "o"-ring, although it can be replaced.
The raising lever mechanism can also be adjusted.
