Help! Paint coming off kitchen cupboards I thought I had prepped well

by carolinero » Sun Mar 16, 2014 7:44 pm

Hi, was hoping someone could advise... I recently painted wood/veneer and melamine units and disappointingly the paint scrapes off really easily which is obviously not ideal in a kitchen. I cleaned them with sugar soap, washed off, then did two coats of a primer specifically for kitchen cabinets made from any material. Sanded lightly between coats. Then I used Dulux diamond eggshell trade paint which I was told would be very durable. Can the quality of primer affect it? Is it because I didn't use an undercoat? Argh, please help!

I know that it sounds weird, but the general process is very similar to painting on ceramic wall tiles and we have a project that will give you some good tips: https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/pa ... _tiles.htm

The undercoat and especially primer are very important, as this is what makes the paint 'stick' to the surface being painted. A great product that we use is this one (available for delivery from our store):
