Joist Through Bathroom Celling - Can I Remove?

by mreeve » Tue Apr 01, 2014 6:34 am

Morning can anyone tell me if a roof joist can be cut or removed, as i have one sticking through my bathroom ceiling in the right hand corner of my bathroom, i am guessing this was built this way as it is a very old house, im guessing at around 1930s,

I do have a picture of it but not sure how to send it on here,

Any advice would be grateful
Regards
Mark.

If there is a joist in place it is probably there for a reason so don't remove it without investigating further. See our project on load bearing walls https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/l ... _walls.htm

You can consult a structural engineer for advice.

To add an image of what you are asking for advice about then there is a small button below the posting box to add an image - click on that and upload an image - click browse and then when you have the image you want, click upload image.

If you are wanting to repair the joist check out our Project on How To Repair Joists https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/rep_struc_joist.htm
