Hello,

I am just about to attempt to repoint along my damp proof course, as I am having some damp issues and was advised that the mortar needed repair as the dpc seems to be quite wet in one area of my wall..

Before I do this - I would be very grateful for advice. Do I need to leave the black plastic membrane visible, or can I put mortar right over the top of it. I've attached a couple of pictures of the brick work. Do the areas shown in both pics need to be repointed? Do I need to chip out the old mortar first?

I was just going to use some u-can brick and wall repair mortar I got from B&Q.

Is there anything I need to be aware of?
Thanks!!

just use sand and cement and lime mix of 4.1.1 and add a waterproof agent,

Better to re-waterproof with your new mortar mix than just trust the old waterproofing will remain intact and risk having to do it all over again. You'll want to use a brick/mortar rake to rake out the old mortar, and a mortar jointer to finish the joints in your new mortar and stop this from happening again...
