Panelled Walls - What Distances Should They be etc?

by rtomrainbow » Thu Jul 10, 2014 2:39 am

I want to put panels on the walls of my living room - not wooden panelling, but the sort that have plaster or wooden beading as a frame. Can anyone tell me if there are set dimensions when putting them up, ie how far away from the edge of the wall they should be? Also, how little space is too little for putting in a panel - do I put one over he doorway if the gap is quite narrow? Any suggestions? Has anyone used wooden beading to get this effect, and has anyone used a contrasting textured paper in the panel?

Hi, yes - have to agree with Welsh Brickie. There are no rules here you need to play the trial and error game to see what suits you....It would help possibly if you could draw the room walls to scale and then experiment with different sizes of panelin the drwaing, this might give you some visualidea of what sizes fit where in your room. Other than that experimentation is the only way to go s our ideas almost certainly would not match your expectations. Good luck and please do let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the post! I have the same problem, the thing is, I moved into a new house and there are white shabby walls, I've been dying my whole life to try to paint them myself and want to find a way to do it! My husband said I need special kits for that!
