Kitchen Hot Tap Tripping RCD When Turned on?

by russellfl » Wed Mar 18, 2015 3:37 pm

Hi, can anyone help? I have a combi boiler which works fine on heating but when the kitchen hot tap is turned on it trips the main fuse. The kitchen sink is metal. The boiler is in the kitchen also. The en suite and bathroom taps don't trip though

Has anyone any ideas what could be doing it?

Hi russellfl

You really need urgent professional help for this. The problem being who to call. Electrician, or boiler engineer. I wouldn't normally recommend, but maybe British Gas might be the boys to call, as they have the people do deal with it all.

My first thought is the sink is live and by touching it you are earthing it and so tripping the RCD. Possibly nothing to do with boiler could be grinder or similar causing problem.

Problem is to test we use a special meter that uses 500 volt to test so it's not really a DIY job.

Since the plumber will not likely have the meter required it will likely need an electrician best as already said is some company who has both be it Home Serve, British Gas or any other does not matter but some one who has both gas fitters and electricians is required.
