We recently had problems in our new house with frequent consumer unit tripping. Finding the culprit was a nightmare so we switched to an RCBO one to help find the offending circuit. Anyway all sorted but since then the electric shower trips the RCBO within seconds as it should do. It's because it's a 10.5 kW on a 16 amp breaker. God knows how it worked before as it was attached to a 16 amp MCB prior - it should of tripped but it always worked ! As I am sure the cable is not thick enough for the 10.5 shower and chasing walls out to fit 10mm is not something we can stomach I thought about replacing the shower with a thermostatic one run off the combi Boiler. Trouble is they are all 3 amp. I want to take advantage of the electrical feed that already exists. Am I asking for trouble getting the 3amp thermostatic wired into the existing combination which will be directly off the 16a RCBO?
