Mains and Gravity Fed Shower Advice Needed for Installing Power Shower

by Ade H » Sun Apr 26, 2015 2:24 pm

Hi All

In our single storey holiday chalet with no loft space, we currently have an electric shower that has an ouput speed which tickles rather than washes!
The cold is mains fed with the hot being gravity fed, however, it comes from the cylinder in a cupboard on the same level.
I wanted to install a power/digital shower but have been told the hot and cold have to be of equal pressure.
Are there any other options open to me to install a shower that has a decent output pressure?

Hi Ade H
Yes, they must be of equal pressure. One answer may be to change the electric shower for one of a higher rating. that would provide a higher flow rate.
You would of course have to ensure that the electric supply, wiring, and protective devices are suitable for the load.

Hi there, you might be able to put a 100psi pump between the tank and the showe input to raise the pressure.

Thanks proptech.
We did install one with a higher rating about 18 months ago hoping it would do the trick but unfortuately it didn't.
It was slightly better but not much.

Thanks for your reply prothos.services.
Can you recommend a particlar pump?
Are you aware of a pump which has an adjustable output - just in case it's too much?

Where exactly is this pump going to go ? and how is it going to provide equal pressure ?
Would it be possible to use a tank supply for the cold, and then go for a shower pump. At least that way the pressures would be equal.

Hi Proptech
There is no cold water tank.
The bath, bathroom sink and kitchen tap are all fed from the mains.
Currently we have an electric shower, would it be possible to install a pump to the cold feed of the shower, giving a more powerful flow or would a pump be too much?

No you do not pump the inlet of an electric shower. If the hot is gravity fed, where is the supply. there must be a tank of some sort, combined with the cylinder ?
