Hi Guys,

I recently moved into a unit on the main road, and the noise in the bedroom is really bad in the morning. Its an old unit, with big glass panes covering the roadside wall. Since we are renting we can't really buy professional soundproofing stuff. Are there any DIY tricks to help stop the noise, thick curtains, a rug etc. I've heard putting egg cartons on walls stop sounds or is that a myth.

Sadly it is a myth and simply will not work.
You've identified the primary cause of your problem which are the windows.
The solution would be to install secondary glazing with an considerable air gap between the secondary panes and the original panes. This is not practical as you don't own the property.
I don't believe there is much (if anything) that you can do other than find a less noisy property.
