Correct Process for primer on new plaster

by jcksqrd » Tue Feb 27, 2024 6:20 pm

Hi there, the guidance for the paint we’ve bought says we should use a primer on our new plaster rather than a mist coat of emulsion paint. Should I apply the primer as is or does it need to be watered down? If so, what ratio of primer to water should I use? Thanks in advance

Hi jcksqrd,
Accepting that you are going to use a primer this needs to be thin enough so the the paint and it’s bonding agents are carried into the surface of the plaster. Not all primers are of the same thickness so more water will be needed in a thick primer paint.
Regards S
