Problem with Light Fitting in Kitchen Light Unit Using GU10 Bulbs

by Spectre » Mon Apr 18, 2016 9:53 pm

We're having a problem with the light fitting in our kitchen. One of the lightbulbs blew this morning and we replaced it but the bulb immediately started to flicker followed by the rest of the bulbs in the fitting. This went on for about 30 seconds and then the light fitting went off completely. It could only be turned back on by removing the lightbulb we'd replaced.

We've since put a different lightbulb in (same wattage) and the problem's reoccurred. Interestingly, the bulb that we've removed has been very hot on both occasions - hotter than seems normal.

Is this a problem with the fitting itself (a loose wire etc?) or is this a bigger problem with the electrics in the house (e.g might this be a wider problem with the wiring in the house)? It's really worrying as we've never had any trouble with this fitting until today (the fitting was installed 10 years ago).

Seen this with G5.3, but not GU10 with G5.3 it was bulbs not matching transformer, but there is no transformer with GU10 so poor connection is only option.
