push button cistern not filling up All aspects of plumbing questions and answers, help, tips and information

i have a push button cistern and recently found that i have to keep the push button pressed down for the loo to fully flush.i looked in the cistern and saw that it was not filling up to the correct level which is presumably why i have to hold the push button down.is it something to do with the inlet valve and if so is it easy for me to adjust as i am not a plumber!!!could someone out there help me.................thank you
