Removed skirting to find block missing in corner

by Hainzy » Thu Jun 15, 2023 12:54 pm

Hi there

First time poster so go easy.

I recently removed the skirting from a bedroom above integral garage, before the walls were skimmed.

In one corner (external) there is a block missing, just the insulation is visible.

What should I do about this? I'm concerned primarily with keeping the room as insulated as possible (gets particularly cold in the winter) given it's above the garage and my baby will be moving in there shortly.

Secondly I wouldn't have anything to fix the skirting to in that corner at present so also looking for a solution to this.

You'll also see from the photo there is a gap between the floor and blockwork, which is present across other areas of the room, especially where the plaster underneath has come away after taking the skirting off. I've read about using pva and bonding/filler to deal with this but not so sure this is right to do on external walls so any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi hainzy,
This is always a difficult area to sort out, suggest you spray expanding foam onto the area, wait till it sets, trim with a sharp knife to match the wall above and then re fix your skirting.
Regards S
