removing a roof tile

by busybee » Sat Nov 20, 2010 4:31 pm

Hi

Does anyone have any tips on how to remove a slate roof tile without damaging/dislodging adjacent tiles? The roof tile needs to be removed to install a roof vent for the bathroom extractor ducting.

Many thanks

busybee,
If you are lucky the tile will be fixed using copper or aluminium nails if so a slate ripper will cut through the nails. Unfortunately most slates are fixed using galvanised nails which the slate ripper will remove but you will damage the area around the nails.

Hi stoneyboy

Thanks for your reply. I'm fairly sure they are galvanised nails- unfortunately.
