Removing Roof Collars for Creating Vaulted Ceiling in Loft

hi im looking to change my loft room to give it vaulted ceilings but the ceiling joists dont look very nice so i was wondering if i could replace them with steel bars oviously one at a time. i only want it half way acrross so was going to screw on the metal the existing and the rafter then cut out a section would this be ok and any ideas how big the steel would need to be. im not sure my decription is so good so ive included a rough sketch any help wouldbe great thanks rob

Hi robgratze.
You need to get a structural engineer to look at what you propose. The collars are there to tie in the roof rafters - get professional advice.
