Hi,
Our gable end wall is solid brick and is painted with a waterproof external paint. It seems that this paint is preventing the wall from breathing as we are getting damp patches on the inside of the house. The previous owners installed a tank membrane internally to some of this end wall but where the membrane stops we can now see damp patched above - it's at least 2 metres up so not rising damp?
We have been advised to strip all of the external paint off and leave the wall for at least 9 months to let it dry - does this sound right? If so, how should we go about removing the paint ourselves - its a huge area to tackle.
Also, we wanted to render the outside of the house - do we definitely need to remove the waterproof paint first? What would you recommend we render with to prevent this issue occuring again?
Thanks for you help.
