I have a 1930s end terrace house that is suffering from damp on the end wall.
Although I didn't know that the place had CWI, a couple of years ago I was told by a builder who was installing air bricks that it had CWI which was wet. It is my guess that the CWI was installed around 20 years ago. Didn't give it any thought as I didn't appreciate the significance. The wall has some mortar missing at the roofline and I have been told that the pointing is poor quality in areas.
Obviously, the initial solution is to fix the wall (probably render it) but will the CWI dry out? I have heard that once it is wet, it needs removing.
MY questions:
1) Is it possible / likely that the CWI has got wet, slumped down and is now bridging the damp course?
2) Will the CWI dry out itself or must it be removed? If the latter, who would do it, how, and has anyone any idea of cost - 25ft 2 storey gable end.
