Renewing guardrail posts on flat roof terrace????????

by bigtone » Tue May 19, 2009 3:37 pm

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can help me. I have a flat roof that is used as a roof terrace and there are wooden posts used as guardrails. These need to be replaced but the felt has upstands around the base of the posts. The posts are inserted into metal bases that bolt up. I need to unbolt the posts but the felt is covering the bolts. How do I ease the felt away so that I can get to the bolts. Do I need to heat it to make it more pliable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Tony

bigtone,
You will probably have to cut away the felt upstand completely and then form a new upstand once the new posts are fitted.
end
